Video Editing Practice Blog Reflection

Video Editing Practice Reflection

Learning the Software (Adobe Premiere Pro)
As I learned how to use Premiere Pro, I was overwhelmed but ready to dive into the software. I began by watching tutorials and experimenting with basic features such as importing footage, cutting clips, and adding text.

Creating the Clips
While creating my clips, I planned the scenes and organized the media according to the interviews and 'B-roll'. To begin with, I pieced together footage in a realistic timeline, incorporating B-roll of the shop and people walking, as well as Zackary's interview. Additionally, I added text overlays and overlaid some of the clips on top of each other to keep the audio from one clip onto another. I enjoyed seeing the story come together while experimenting with transitions and timing f
or smooth flow.

Challenges and Successes
As I created media, I ran into a couple of obstacles. Managing multiple video and audio layers was a struggle at first. It took me a few tries to align my footage correctly and balance out the audio levels between the dialogue of the interviews and the B-roll clips. I successfully learned how to organize media and create a professional-looking final product.

Lessons Learned
Creating this media, I learned the importance of project organization and saving time. It took me a while to organize each section of footage into bins of interviews and B-roll. This organization helped me greatly when importing my media. I learned creative skills such as timing and storytelling. Technically, I worked on cutting, transitions, and audio adjustment.

Key Takeaways/Next Steps
I plan to try more advanced features such as color grading, motion graphics, and effects. I realized that patience is an important feature to utilize when working with Adobe Premiere Pro. Practice is important for learning this software and these techniques.

Application to Portfolio Project
These skills will help showcase creativity, storytelling, and technical abilities. I feel slightly confident in producing video content, but definitely need more work.
