For this production of Buzzed, the camera is a key tool in constructing the sports and fitness magazine. This will create the visual identity of the brand. I chose to use the iPhone 15 Pro, which offers professional-grade capabilities in a portable format. Allowing for both print quality photography and promotional video.
Why
Settings & Operation1. Orientation & Framing
Landscape mode for double-page spreads and wide action shots.
Portrait mode for cover images and close-ups.
Rule of thirds and grid overlay activated for balanced composition.
2. Focus & Exposure
Tap to focus on the athlete’s face or central action point.
Exposure adjustment slider ensures highlights (muscle definition, sweat, reflections) are clear and not overexposed.
3. Stabilization
Tripod and mount attachment used for indoor and outdoor shots.
Ensures sharp images even during timed or remote-triggered shots.
Prevents motion blur in low-light conditions.
4. Lighting Interaction
Combine natural lighting (golden hour, open shade) with ring light or reflectors indoors.
Adjust iPhone exposure to complement the lighting setup and maintain high contrast to emphasize athletic form.
5. Motion Shots
Use burst mode to capture sequences of movement.
Select the best frame from multiple shots to ensure peak action is captured.
Freeze fast movements like sprints or jumps while keeping the background dynamic
Post-Production Workflow
After capturing images, photos will be processed in:
Adobe Lightroom: Color grading, white balance correction, and vibrancy adjustments.
Photoshop: Minor blemish correction, background cleanup.
InDesign: Integration into layouts, ensuring image resolution and crop are suitable for print
Reflection
Reflecting on the planning phase of Buzzed, I can see how each decision from location and mise-en-scène to camera operation and layout contributes to creating a professional sports and fitness magazine. This process has helped me understand not only the technical aspects of media production but also how visual language constructs meaning and appeals to a target audience.
